He grew up in Sutherland and was called into the armed services on 14 October 1943. After training at Texas A&M College and the Harlingen, Texas, gunnery school, he was assigned as tail gunner to his B-24 squadron at Westover Field, Massachusetts.Robert W. Regennitter, Sohn von H. J. Regennitter aus Sutherland und Frau Beulah Haroldson aus Rembrandt, Iowa, wurde am 15. März 1925 geboren. Er wuchs in Sutherland auf und wurde am 14. Oktober 1943 zum Wehrdienst einberufen. On 20 February 1945, just west of Pontebba, the bomber on which he was tail gunner was damaged by enemy anti-aircraft fire and was last seen falling. Robert's body was found about eight months later and buried in the U.S. military cemetery at Mirandola, Italy, before later transfer.Mit der 15th Air Force erreichte er Italien im Oktober 1944. Am 20. Februar 1945, knapp westlich von Pontebba, wurde der Bomber, auf dem er Heckschütze war, durch feindliche Flak beschädigt und zuletzt abstürzend gesehen.
